Day 1: Well, here we are again. We've just returned from a hot and sunny week travelling around South Devon, Dorset and Somerset. How lucky we were considering the summer of 2007??!!
It was glorious as we set off from Bude on the Saturday morning (1st Sept). Our first stop was a campsite in the pretty hamlet of Salcombe Regis, just outside Sidmouth - famous for the Donkey Sanctuary! We arrived at lunchtime and after pitching up decided to follow the signs directly from the site to the beach and coastal path. The views were fantastic, especially on such a lovely sunny day. We passed some lovely white, thatched cottages with the most spectacular views on the way. The coastal path was full of hedgerows bearing summer fruits such as blackberries and sloes. All in all a perfect summers day!
As we looked along the coast towards Branscombe we could see what's left of the MSC Napoli, the container ship that ran aground earlier this year. The ship was literally blown apart a few months ago and half of it was towed to Ireland. We're not sure when they'll be moving what's left? You can clearly see the oil/fuel still leaking from the vessel. On the way back we came across the pretty church at Salcombe Regis, which must have one of the best kept/tended churchyards we've ever seen!
