May 2008: Day 2 (am) - Brockenhurst, New Forest
We were up bright and early on Sunday morning, hoping for at least dry weather and we weren't disappointed. It was overcast but very warm. After a swift breakfast we started our walk into Lyndhurst, 4 miles from the site along the cycle track/footpath through the forest. On the way we heard our first cuckoo of the year and a woodpecker. Sadly this year we didn't spot any deer! The bluebells were out but seemed to be a bit sparse this year. On arrival in Lyndhurst we found a 'doggie friendly' tearoom with outside seating (a roof terrace!) where we stopped for a much needed brew. We actually returned there later in the day for our lunch! Our electric step had gone wrong on our motorhome so we had to purchase a plastic temporary replacement step. Mike had to carry it 4 miles back to the site tied to his rucksack - that was a sight to see!
