Dartmoor August 2008: Day 3 - Pew Tor

The stones and views at Pew Tor were wonderful. We can only imagine how much better they are on a sunny, clear day!!!!

After the walk back down to the campsite we had a brew, packed up and headed home.......to more rain!

We enjoyed our weekend on Dartmoor, despite the rain, and hope to return in 2009.

Dartmoor August 2008: Day 3 - Walking to Pew Tor

It wasn't raining when we got up on Sunday morning!!!!! It was our last morning so we decided to grab some 'outdoor time' while we could and then pack up on our return.

We headed up to Pew Tor - we could see the Tor from our camper window on our arrival on Friday afternoon but the view was non-existent on Saturday!

It was a pretty wet and boggy experience but well worth it once we'd reached the summit, for the views alone! Paddy enjoyed the local delicacies (ie sheep poo and pony poo!) along the journey!!!

On the way up we found a nice resting stone.........with my initials on! I swear I'd not been there before!!

Once at the summit, Michael decided to go a bit further and stand on top of the Tor while Paddy watched his every move! Paddy and I decided to keep our feet on firm (well boggy) ground!

Dartmoor August 2008: Day 2 - A Wet Wander!

We were awake early on Saturday morning - the rain was lashing down on the camper roof! What a noise!!!! We spent most of the morning enjoying a leisurely, camper-cooked, full English breakfast and reading the papers.......oh, and 'people watching' of course! Some campers were leaving that morning and were struggling to take down their tents in the howling winds and torrential rain.

At 2pm the rain had changed from torrential to a light drizzle so we took the opportunity to get our for an hour - waterproofs on of course! We walked up onto the moor again but the views were pretty restricted, as expected!

Once again the locals (Dartmoor ponies this time!) looked less than happy with the weather.......as did Paddy in the camper when we were 'confined'!!!!!

Dartmoor August 2008: Water, water everywhere!

Here are some photos of the water found everywhere on Dartmoor!!!

Dartmoor August 2008: - Day 1 Moortown Walk

Another month, another camper trip and more rain!!!

We had managed to find, and book, a small campsite nestled on Dartmoor (called Langstone Manor) in between Tavistock and Princetown.

We arrived on Friday afternoon, pitched up within minutes (as you do in a motorhome!) and decided to walk the route around Moortown from the site. It was dry for a majority of the walk so we considered ourselves VERY lucky! The views were fantastic, but would have been much better on a traditional August summers day!!!! Even the locals (sheep) looked fed up with the rain!!!
