Easter Sunday : Charmouth coastal erosion

Our final walk of the weekend was out of the site and up onto the headland to see the extent of the coastal erosion that has plagued this area for many years.

We were up early on Monday and off site by 10am (in glorious sunshine again). We really enjoyed our Easter weekend away with our pals and look forward to doing it again soon.

Easter Sunday: Back on site at Charmouth

After a couple of hours wandering around Lyme Regis we caught the bus back to Charmouth and enjoyed Sunday lunch in the doggie friendly pub in the village. We then spent the rest of the afternoon on site, which has a doggie walk along the river, where the swans were nesting.

Easter Sunday: Lyme Regis - harbour/Cob area

The weather was so good I couldn't put my camera down!!! Here are some more photos from the harbour and Cob area.

Easter Sunday: Lyme Regis - RNLI practice

Whilst we were there the RNLI were practicing their sea rescues. The lifeboat went out and was joined by the helicopter out to sea.

Easter Sunday: Lyme Regis

After morning coffee we headed down towards the harbour end of Lyme Regis where is was getting busy very quickly!

Easter Sunday: Lyme Regis

We arrived in Lyme Regis around 10am to the sound of the church bells signalling the Easter service. The beachside cafe's had just started to open for business so we sat outside overlooking the beach drinking coffee and watching the world go by.

Easter Sunday: Walk to Lyme Regis

Again we were up early on Easter Sunday morning. The birds were singing (loudly!) and the sun was out so no wasting time! After breakfast we decided to walk into Lyme Regis. The coastal path has recently suffered from major erosion so an alternative route was signposted from Charmouth village, that takes you through a wooded area and across the local golf course (watch out for low flying golf balls!). The views from the top of the hill over Lyme Regis, The Cob and the coast were fantastic on a very sunny clear day.

Easter Saturday BBQ:

We spent the rest of the afternoon on site preparing for an evening BBQ with the Parnells.

The sun stayed out and a good time was had by all!

Easter Saturday:

We awoke early to glorious blue skies.............and it stayed that way for the duration of our break! After breakfast we decided to wander into Charmouth village and catch a bus to the market down of Bridport. We we expecting a small market town but it was a lot bigger than we had anticipated. They have a massive regular Saturday street market, which stretches from top to bottom of the High Street (both sides). There was also a car boot style market up another street and a monthly farmers market in the town hall. It was really warm and the streets were packed - one of the reasons I never took any photos in Bridport! After a couple of hours of wandering around the stalls we headed for a doggie friendly pub for a much needed coffee before catching the bus back to Charmouth in the afternoon. These photos are of Charmouth village before we caught the bus to Bridport!

Easter at Charmouth: Good Friday

Our 2nd trip of 2009 was for the Easter break. We had booked a small campsite in the centre of the little Dorset village of Charmouth, where we had stayed once before......back in 2006! We were not camping alone this time. Our friends from Berkshire, the Parnells, had booked the same site. On arrival we all had pitches together so not far to walk for BBQ's and booze!!!

We left home early on Friday morning and travelled through rain and drizzle for most of our 2 hour journey. On arrival we pitched up, said our hellos and had our lunch. By then the drizzle had stopped and there was definite signs of improvement in the weather. We spent the afternoon in Charmouth village and walked Paddy down to the beach, where there were many people fossil hunting! These photos show Charmouth Beach, misty views towards Lyme Regis and The Cob and one set of Parnells!!!
